ABOUT THE RESTAURANT

Welcome to Uig Sands Restaurant, Isle of Lewis

Huge thanks to all those who visited and supported us in 2023. We closed for our winter break at the end of October and we will look forward to opening up at some point towards to end of March in 2024.

We are not taking bookings for 2024 tables yet but if you would like to be the first to hear then you can sign up to our email list at the bottom of this page.

Our accommodation, Uig Sands Rooms, are open all year round and have great facilities so you’re able to self-cater.

We pride ourselves in offering a memorable, authentic experience using as much fresh and local produce as we can, with a focus on fish and shellfish. We welcome all customers and look forward to seeing you here.

We highly recommend booking ahead online or by calling 01851672334.

Depending on the time of year and availability we will also be taking bookings for larger events, weddings and parties, please get in touch for details. Exclusive use of the restaurant space for up to 40 people is possible.

We decided to build a restaurant in Uig, Isle of Lewis in September 2016 after conducting a survey to gauge local opinion. We are so grateful to LEADER and HIE for their financial help, support and guidance. Without these grants and the help of our bank loans we could not have built the restaurant. After a lot of work, such as creating a 450yd track across the land, building finally started in May 2018.

The restaurant is a modern design by Dualchas Architects and has large windows spanning one wall to make the most of the view. O’Mac Construction completed the build to a tight time-frame and without fault.
The restaurant will seat up to 40.
The restaurant has a focus on fresh and local produce with an emphasis on local seafood.
One of our principal aims was to create jobs locally and also help to serve the increasing tourist trade.
Seumas Macdonald, who lives locally in Aird Uig, and Kenny MacKay from Carloway, jointly run the restaurant as Head Chef / General Managers.

The project was part financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community Outer Hebrides LEADER 2014-2020 Programme.
